The genus Halyomorpha Mayr, 1864 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomidae: Pentatominae: Cappaeini) was established based on a single species, Halys timorensis Westwood, 1837 (currently junior subjective synonym of picus (Fabricius, 1794)). examination the voucher specimens identifi ed as by syntype timorensis, and syntypes Pentatoma halys Stål, 1855 revealed that: i) (Westwood), stat. restit., must be reinstated valid not considered H. picus; ii) Mayr’s belong to two different (Stål) picus. problem double misidentification type species is resolved action first revising author(s) according Article 70.3 ICZN (1999): we fi x here (= sensu nec Westwood) 1864.
